The local community of Abra Malaga Thastayoc near Cusco, Peru will work with UConn chapter to identify and prioritize its challenges and identify how engineering projects might help address those challenges. Currently the community has no bathroom structures, and people are suffering from parasites and stomach problems due to drinking impure water. Current project goal is to build about 10-15 latrines for the families that need it most with a hope to build more in the future.
EWB USA community programs are based on long term partnerships of a minimum of 5 years. On the first assessment trip, members from UConn chapter will visit the community to understand the community needs and modify project goals accordingly. We are very excited for this project as it is a different direction for our chapter relating to public health!
